Curriculum

The BCE Learning and Teaching Framework (2012) explicitly articulates the beliefs and the responses that flow from these beliefs within schools in the Archdiocese. At St Finbarr's School, we believe that every learner is created in the image and likeness of God, that diversity is a strength and that everyone can achieve success.

As a Catholic Christian community we educate all to live the gospel of Jesus Christ as successful, creative and confident, active and informed learners empowered to shape and enrich our world. We educate for learners who are successful, creative and confident, active and informed and empowered to share and enrich our world.

Each student is entitled to:
  • quality teaching
  • having their needs and interests recognised and catered for
  • engaging learning that is both relevant and current
  • flexibility in how they learn

We believe that entitlement for each learner is more than coverage of the curriculum. It is more than timetabling for the allocated hours for each learning

area or subject.

We believe that learning:

  • is holistic in nature
  • happens in partnership with the school, local and wider communities
  • encourages the pursuit of excellence
  • provides enriching and enlightening experiences
  • is purposeful and meaningful in a contemporary context

We believe in rich, real and relevant experiences that engage, challenge and support the learner promote lifelong learning. We believe that active participation, creativity and problem solving allow for discovery and expression. We believe we are responsible for ourselves, others and the world in which we live and that we celebrate God's love for us in many different ways.
