2019 Naplan Results

Last week the state's NAPLAN results were released and St Finbarr's once again performed very well, affirming the work we are doing in literacy and numeracy across the school. We have begun to analyse our school's results in order to identify trends and target areas for individual students. Over the next few weeks, with the assistance of Brisbane Catholic Education staff, we will continue to analyse our results and use this information to inform our planning and professional learning. Some noteworthy data stories include:

  • Our school mean (average) was above the state mean in all areas of literacy and numeracy across Years 3 and 5

  • All students achieved at least the national minimum standard in all tests

  • St Finbarr's showed improvement in all literacy areas from 2018 to 2019 in both Years 3 and 5

While NAPLAN is a point-in-time test that assesses students' literacy and numeracy skills, such standardised tests still provide us with valuable information about our students and how to progress their learning. Ultimately, we would hope to see a correlation between students' NAPLAN results, their school reports and other tests completed at a school level, and this is often the case. Where the correlation is not as obvious, we would certainly explore this further and aim to identify how we can assist the student to close the gap.

It is wonderful to have a NAPLAN good news story to report!
