Zone Swimming Carnival win Aggregate Trophy!

On Wednesday 27 March our St Finbarr’s swimming team competed at the Zone 4 Swimming Carnival at the Valley Pool. Our swim team had been eagerly awaiting this carnival to test out their swimming abilities against other schools in the district. The weather was variable with periods of heavy rain however, our swimmers were not fazed by the unfavourable swimming conditions. Our swim team is to be commended on their attitude, team work and performance at this carnival. Our performances in the pool were of a very high standard with a number of students taking out first place in a number of ages groups and strokes and or placing in events. Although performances in the pool were a highlight what was most impressive was the behaviour and sportsmanship in which the team displayed. I can speak on behalf of Mrs McGahan and myself to say that we were extremely proud of the St Finbarr’s swim team in and out of the pool.

St Finbarr’s finished 5th overall but only just! There was a tie for 3rd place and we were only 9 points away. It was a very close finish between the top 4x schools.

This year the zone awarded an aggregate overall winner. This is based on size of the school and performances in the pool. This inaugural trophy was awarded to the St Finbarr’s swim team (1st place). What a great start to our zone carnival season. Our swimmers should be so proud of their efforts.

A big thank you to Mrs McGahan and Mrs Brown for their job as team managers on the day. Further thank you to parents who were tirelessly supporting our swimmers and for their consideration of the teachers. We are very lucky to be part of such a tight knit supportive school community. Great job to our swim team!
